Crowns are dental restorations otherwise known as "caps" which are coverings that fit over teeth. Crowns may be necessary because of broken down old fillings, fractured, chipped or sensitive teeth. Crowns are also used to improve the appearance of natural teeth that are malformed, malpositioned or discolored.
Crowns are made of natural looking porcelain and are made to improve your overall smile or to blend in with your own teeth in perfect harmony.
Dr Silvio Suardi's Dental Practice is a mercury –free practice. We make use of 100% porcelain when it comes to Crowns, CEREC® Veneers or CEREC® inlays. (computerized dentistry)

Some of the indications for a crown are:

1. A previously filled tooth where there now exists more filling than tooth. The existing tooth structure becomes weakened and can no longer support the filling
2. Extensive damage by decay.
3. Discolorations and compromised aesthetics.
4. Fractures
5. Root canal treatment - After a root canal procedure, teeth tend to become brittle and the risk for fractures increase.  These teeth need to be protected by a crown.
6. Bridges - When a missing tooth is replaced with a bridge, the adjacent teeth requires crowns to connect the missing space with tooth in the middle.
7. Implants – After implants are placed in the bone of your mouth, they require crowns to replace the missing teeth.
7. Enhancing optimal aesthetics

Crowns strengthen and protect the remaining tooth structure and can improve the appearance of your teeth. We offer porcelain, zirconium and ceramic crowns. (All metal-free) These crowns look the most natural and are strong and durable.

Having  CEREC® Veneers fitted onto your front teeth is a fantastic way to enhance your smile. You can whiten your smile, close spaces, blemish irregularities and create a great smile.
During recent years, veneers became thinner and less invasive, due to an improvement in the quality of the porcelain. The veneers also look more natural, enabling dentists to provide patients with perfect smiles.
Veneers are generally indicated to treat the following:

• Spaces between the teeth (diastemas)
• Broken or chipped teeth
• Unsightly, stained or washed out fillings
• Permanently stained or discolored teeth
• Mis-shapen or crooked teeth
• Whiten dark yellow or stained teeth

Veneers are very thin and are bonded onto the front of your anterior teeth. Dentists use some of the same techniques to bond plastic resins for minor smile corrections. These veneers are about 0.3mm to 0.5mm in thickness but are very strong once bonded to your teeth. They have a "life like" appearance with the strength, beauty and durability only porcelain restorations can afford. There is no "dark line" on the borders of porcelain veneers or crowns. They transmit light and therefore have a more translucent appearance giving a natural aesthetic look. Veneers do not require the massive grinding of tooth structure that caps do yet they accomplish a life-like aesthetic result.

How's it done?
After a thorough discussion with your dentist to establish just what you wish to accomplish and establish what can be done, your first appointment usually involves taking study models, photos, X-rays along with a thorough examination. This is the patient’s opportunity to meet the dentist and discuss possible options and outcomes. The shape, colour, size and amount of veneers that are needed will then be discussed. Normally, the front upper 6 teeth require veneers. After this, treatment takes place in one to three comfortable visits at one of our branches. Maintaining your smile is very important and it is essential for patients to visit the oral hygienist every six months.
